How can we design our businesses so it puts family first?
Last week, one of the founders of Biznostics, Rueben, spent some days at home looking after his eldest daughter who was at home sick from school. During this time, it really got him thinking about how hard it is for small business owners to take that time off.
So when did it become hard to be able to take this time off? It is like that work takes a greater priority over family and which seems to be the wrong way around. We typically assume that we achieve the badge of honour by working harder and longer. Now don’t get me wrong; it is still important to work hard. However, it becomes problematic when it is all about that at the expense of family time.
What if we started designing our businesses so that we could easily take time off to look after family when they are sick?
What if our businesses were designed to serve us, our family and ultimately our community?
It starts with us thinking differently as to why we are in business in the first place.
How do we put family first? It will take us closely looking as to what we are doing with our time each week and where are we being effective; instead of being busy for the sake of being busy. There is usually unnecessary focus and time placed on unimportant things in the business. Lets start by eliminating and doing things differently – there is more than one way we can go about in putting family first and having a successful business at the same time.
One of the essential ways is to look into how we can use technology differently to save time and to give us more flexibility in how we do business.
